Grid congestion

Grid congestion is congestion on the electricity grid. Congestion occurs when demand or production exceeds the available grid capacity. The result is an overloaded grid. A number of solutions have been introduced to prevent grid congestion and ensure the smoother flow of electricity. We support our customers in deploying these solutions with our flexibility services.

Virtual Power Plant

Together, our customers with flexible sources of energy form a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), developed by Scholt Energy. We manage this automated energy system in which sources of energy, such as wind turbines, solar panels and batteries, combine to form a large pool of flexible power. Using intelligent software, we distribute the available capacity (derived from the flexible sources of energy) and trade this capacity on the energy markets.

The benefits of flexibility

Cost savings

Cost savings

Flexibility helps to optimise energy consumption. It creates room in which to move as the prices move on the energy markets. It allows consumers to consume less when prices are higher.

Revenue model

Revenue model

Making power available or offering flexibility to the market creates an attractive revenue model. Trading the flexibility smartly is another way to generate additional revenue.

Self-sufficient

Self-sufficient

Flexible sources of energy make you less dependent on the regular electricity grid and help businesses to become increasingly self-sufficient when it comes to energy consumption.

Positive contribution to the energy transition

Positive contribution to the energy transition

As renewable sources of energy grow and grid capacity becomes more limited, the need for flexibility will grow. Flexibility allows grid congestion to be reduced or even eliminated altogether.
